Parks and Recreation

The Midlothian Park District has been providing recreational opportunities for residents for the past 50 years. The Park District owns and operates 59 acres of parkland within the village and provides year-round recreational activities for residents. Residents receive quarterly brochures containing information about our programs, trips, and events. You can find current information on our website at www.midlothianparkdistrict.org.

In addition, neighborhood parks offer year-round recreational activities. In the northwest quadrant of the village we have Bremen Heights Park, Pappas Park, Geraci Park and the Don Preston Recreation Center. The Recreation Center has a gym and boardroom that are available for rent. Behind the Recreation Center are the Jimmy Malone Tot Lot and four T-ball fields.

In the southwest quadrant of the village is Kostner Park, also known as Belly Button Hill. It has a play lot, pavilion, walking path with fitness stations, an overlook and an all-purpose field. The park underwent a total renovation in 2006. Included in the new design was a lighted walking path, soccer field, a picnic area with gazebo, all new parking and a brand new play area. Many children (and some adventurous adults) brave the weather every winter to slide down Belly Button Hill for hours of fun.

Nearby is Splish Splash Pool, which is operated between early June and mid-August. Splish Splash has three pools, a diving board, volleyball court, play lot and concession stand. It is also available for rent. Scout Park, named for an active local troop, is located near the library. It offers a few swings and tot toys, as well as some seating.

In the northeast quadrant of the village, the largest park is known as Memorial Park. This park houses four softball fields (one with lights), a baseball field, and Howie Minas Field, a lighted professional-size baseball field available for rent and used as the home field for Robert Morris College Baseball. Memorial Park also has a 1/3-mile walking path, batting cages, picnic pavilions, sand volleyball courts, two play lots and a sled hill. An area for BMX bikes is also in the works.

On the west side of the railroad tracks is newly renovated Waverly Park, and a soccer field is provided at 143rd and Central Park.

Roesner Park is located in the southeast section and has a sand volleyball court and playlot. A walking path surrounding the park is in progress.

The park district offers a variety of classes for all ages. It also supports Midlothian Little League, the Mid Crest Panthers, Midlothian Girl’s Softball, and Bro. Wm. Kerkel T-Ball. Kids also have lots of fun at the teen dances held on selected Fridays.

The Posen Park District is located on 144th and Campbell Avenue at Memorial Park. They are available by calling (708) 371-1484. The Community Center offers a variety of programs and is available at (708) 388-8797.
