Today & Beyond

Today, the New Eastside supports a community of 11,000 residents and 45,000 people who work in the area and draws thousands of tourists and visitors to the shopping and dining complex Lakeshore East Village Market.

On the horizon for the New Eastside, the third tallest tower in Chicago will rise by the river in 2019. Named the Wanda Vista Tower, it will be a combination of hotel and condominiums. GEMS World Academy-Chicago Upper School will be complete in 2016 and an additional high-rise hotel, to be located in the empty lot at 201 N. Columbus Dr. has been announced. Five sites remain open for development in the New Eastside and a public school is part of the master plan for the area.

Community Groups

Several organizations have worked to help integrate the neighborhood and foster a sense of community.

New Eastside Community

Founded by residents in 2012 in response to the rapidly growing community, the New Eastside Community improves communication within the New Eastside by publishing community newsletters and providing online community resources as well as acting as a clearing house for maintenance requests and a central contact line for community issues.
