Selden Fox, LTD., Certified Public Accountants’ President Bob Selden has been more surprised by his success than anyone. In fact, as a young CPA, he never envisioned he would be in public accounting for more than 40 years. And, he certainly had no idea that he would build and be an owner in the profitable and rewarding CPA firm he leads today. Selden attributes part of his company’s achievements to its ability to attract and retain quality employees. One of the reasons Selden’s employees stay, he said, is because of the culture. He noted that workers today, more than ever before, really appreciate an employer who values his employees. Selden feels his company's commitment to providing a positive work environment has helped the firm build a great team of loyal, long-term employees.

He also said that the firm’s Oak Brook location has contributed to the firm’s accomplishments. While Selden Fox serves businesses and individuals from all over the Midwest, it stays closely connected with the Oak Brook community. Selden said, “I can’t imagine finding a community that has a better business environment and economic growth.” Selden said that his most significant achievement has been to develop a medium-sized accounting firm that has been successful for over 25 years. He is especially proud of the fact that the firm's long range planning for succession allows the firm to remain independent. As a result, with more than 30 skilled CPAs on staff, Selden said, “Our company is able to provide clients with small firm service and national firm quality accounting.”

Commitment to Community

And, despite the nationwide focus on public accounting scandals over the past decade, Oak Brook-based Selden Fox, LTD has remained an admired and trusted member of the area’s business community. Selden said, “Accounting is an important, integral part of the business community. While some companies, like Enron, have caused great damage to our profession’s reputation, Selden Fox has maintained the traditional values with which we started the firm.”
