Palatine Public Library District

Palatine Public Library District is committed to improving and enriching the lives of everyone in the community. Through events, classes, services, resources and technology, the library is a place where you can find the information you need, learn a new skill, enjoy educational programs and connect with the community.

The Digital Media Center is a popular resource for students, entrepreneurs and artists. Work on a digital school project, edit photos with Adobe Photoshop, convert VHS tapes to DVD and record a video session in front of a green screen – these are just a few of the many ways patrons can be creative with library resources.

Now local businesses and nonprofit organizations within the district can obtain a business library card. This card provides free access to targeted marketing lists, social media marketing classes, meeting rooms, and Lynda.com video tutorials for business, software, technology and more. To obtain a card, the owner/manager needs to bring in a personal photo ID and the business’s current tax bill, lease agreement or utility bill.

The library also boasts a large collection of e-book titles available to district cardholders with no fees. Check out an e-reader or learn how to download an e-book to your device. Downloading e-books and audiobooks is easy with Hoopla and OverDrive/MyMediaMall.

Young children will enjoy the Early Literacy Area where they have the opportunity to play and learn with interactive games, media, and equipment. A rich variety of picture books and engaging activities help build and develop successful reading, writing and social skills, as well as imaginative play. The entire children’s collection is on the first floor, making it easier than ever for parents to find resources for their children.

Patrons looking for the latest movies and music can choose from over 42,000 items in the library’s audiovisual collections. The library also offers instant on-demand access to movies, music and audiobooks with the Hoopla app for smartphone, tablet or computer.

Gamers will enjoy the video game collection with hundreds of games to play at home, and two Playstation 4 video game stations for play in the library.

The next time you need to hold a meeting with co-workers, homeowner’s association, club or group, consider the library. There are three meeting rooms, complete with presentation equipment, available for district cardholders to reserve.

The second floor is home to nonfiction and research resources, quiet places to read, comfortable seating and study rooms suitable for meetings with friends and colleagues. If you need a computer, the Library has over sixty computers and laptops available for use in the Library. High-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the main building. Professional staff is available to help you find the most reliable sources both online and in print.

Connect with the Library on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or visit the Library’s website (www.palatinelibrary.org) to learn about upcoming programs and events. You can also manage your account by having hold notices, due-date reminders, and information about the Library sent to your email address. Download the Library’s app on your smartphone to search the catalog, manage your account, find ebooks, and more.

To obtain your library card, simply bring one form of photo identification with your current address to any Palatine Library location.
