East Alton

With a population in excess of 6,830, East Alton also stands on the banks of the Mississippi, adjacent to the nation’s largest locks and dam. Incorporated in 1893, East Alton soon became the home of Olin Corporation, one of the world’s largest makers of ammunition. Today, the company employs some 1,600 workers at its East Alton facilities.

The village’s housing includes everything from quality apartments to large executive homes. The village is engaged in an image beautification program designed to enhance the quality of life in the community. It boasts its own police and fire protection. The Fire Department has both full-time firefighters and paid on-call volunteers.
