The Village of Hartford is located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers and offers easy access to St. Louis, just 30 short minutes southwest. The Village is very excited about tourism and providing jobs for our region and the 200th Anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition to be commemorated nationwide.

The Village is focused on tourism and business development to include a 180-foot Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower located in the 60-acre Lewis and Clark Commerce Center along with hotel and restaurant development to serve visitors coming to Site #1 of the National Lewis and Clark Trail.

Downtown redevelopment is important to our future along with bike trail development throughout our community to better serve residents and bike riders traveling along the Confluence Bikeway from the spectacular Lewis and Clark Visitor Center and the fabulous Great Rivers Museum in Alton. Development of 500 industrial acres on the east side of the community is a top priority with enterprise zones and TIF district incentives. This industrial site has a lot to offer with rail access.

Hartford was incorporated in 1920 and provides police and volunteer fire protection to 1,545 residents. Two school districts serve the community: Wood River-Hartford School District 15 and East Alton-Wood River Community High School District 14.
