Healthcare

Quality healthcare is a top priority in the Rockford area. It’s the city’s second-largest industry and its largest employer. Thousands of residents work in one of the area’s three major health systems, which offer services to a 12-county area in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Another major employer and healthcare provider, the University of Illinois College of Medicine, educates doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, while running a system of clinics for residents.

Rockford Health System, with 396 licensed beds, is home to a Level 1 Trauma Center, the highest-level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the area’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The medical group includes more than 160 physicians in nine area locations and a Heart & Vascular Center and Brain & Spine Center.

SwedishAmerican Health System comprises a full-service acute care hospital, a medical center in Belvidere, a medical staff of more than 500 doctors from a broad range of specialties and sub-specialties, primary care and multi-specialty clinics, a home healthcare agency and a spectrum of outpatient, wellness and education programs. It was recently named by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois with a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care.

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is a 254-bed tertiary care facility with a Level I Trauma Center, Regional Heart Institute, Illinois Neurosciences Institute, Center for Cancer Care, Women’s Center, OSF Diabetes Education Center, Center for Sports Medicine and Health Fitness, OSF Wound Healing Center and leading-edge orthopedic services.
