Education

Excellent education is available at all levels in the Round Lake Area. Several public elementary and high school districts serve the region, including Round Lake Area Schools District 116 (RLAS-116). More than 6,800 pre-K-12th grade students attend one of nine facilities in District 116, which is distinguished by small class sizes and increasing achievements in academics, athletics and the fine arts.

Early childhood education is available through RLAS-116, as well as several centers throughout the Round Lake Area. Students also select among a number of private and parochial institutions as an alternative to public education, including St. Joseph School in Round Lake and St. Bede School in Ingleside.

As for higher learning, college-bound students may choose to attend a campus of the College of Lake County (CLC), a comprehensive two-year community college offering a number of credit and non-credit courses. In addition to its main campuses in Grayslake, Waukegan, Vernon Hills and Great Lakes, CLC operates three local extension sites at the North Branch Courthouse, Round Lake High School and the Round Lake Area Library.

Students interested in accessing opportunities to attain an undergraduate or graduate degree, or professional development options, without leaving home utilize the modern University Center of Lake County. The University Center is a unique partnership comprised of eight public and 10 private Illinois colleges and universities, all available via on-site and online.

An outstanding resource for lifelong learners is the Round Lake Area Library. Accompanying the library’s exhaustive collection of books, magazines, journals and other sources are year-round programs for adults, teens and children, as well as various outreach programs, such as blood drives, English as a Second Language classes and homebound services. Within the library patrons will also find more than 50 public-use computer stations, a group study room and a tutor room.
