Shelbyville is near the geographic heart of Illinois. Two-thirds of the nation's gross national product producers are within a 500-mile radius of Shelby County. The county is served by State Highways 16 and 128 as well as Interstates 70, 72, 74 and 55. Rail service is provided by the Shelbyville Industrial Rail Spur and the Union Pacific. Additionally, the county-owned airport accommodates air traffic, and interstate trucking service is immediately available.

The City of Shelbyville offers aVariety of unique shopping experiences. Our quaint downtown is an antique lover's paradise. The traditional central business district offers clothing, jewelry, crafts, as well as financial institutions. Professional and government offices, restaurants, insurance, and attorney offices are also located in the downtown area.

Johnstowne Mall, at the west end of the city, offers a wide selection of goods for a unique shopping experience.



If you're looking for a place to play, fish, picnic or just unwind, come to Lake Shelbyville. It was developed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and offers sparkling waters, sheltered coves and sandy beaches.

You'll find an abundance of wooded recreation areas here. Accommodations, overnight camping and daytime activities are conveniently situated in an area of natural beauty steeped in the traditions of Indian lore and history.

The lake is an enjoyable place toVisit, with glistening waters beckoning boating enthusiasts from throughout the Midwest and three lakeshore marinas ready to serve you. Boat launches are available at each recreation area on the lake, providing convenient access to miles of open water.

Public education in Shelbyville is provided by Community Unit School District #4. Our children are taught in three separate facilities: Main Street Elementary School, Moulton Middle School and Shelbyville High School.

Spark's College, a private institution founded in 1908, offers court reporting, accounting and secretarial training for high school graduates. It is accredited by the Association of Independent Colleges and the National Court Reporters Association. Shelbyville is in the Lake Land Community College district; adultVocational and college-level instruction is available at it's campus in Mattoon. Eastern Illinois University and Millikin University, both four year-colleges, are located only 40 minutes away.
