The Streator Family YMCA (10 Oakley Avenue) is a mainstay in the Streator community, offering its membership and guests an assortment of excellent recreational services and programs. The YMCA is launching an extensive construction project designed to enhance the current facility and ultimately expand its offerings. Updates to the aquatics facility, new exercise equipment and the addition of a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, two batting/pitching cages for baseball/softball and an area for senior activities comprise the large-scale project.

Youth and adult sports are a significant aspect to life in Streator. Competitive and recreational leagues for all ages, ranging from baseball, softball and basketball to football, soccer and bowling, are readily found in the community. Adding to this are the Streator area’s three well-maintained golf courses.

Outdoor enthusiasts revel in the scenic recreational opportunities discovered in the area. The Illinois and Vermillion Rivers provide great fun on the water, while nearby state parks, conservation areas and several city parks offer activities to be enjoyed on land. Notable sites include the beautiful Starved Rock State Park, which boasts nature trails, picnicking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, camping and winter activities, and the City’s Spring Lake Park. Located just under two miles from Streator, the 37.2-acre park is comprised of two creeks, a trail system and native flora and fauna, all of which give way to such diversions as hiking, bird watching, fishing, horseback riding and more.
