Active Living and Recreation

Leading the charge in providing quality recreational programs and facilities in Tinley Park is the Tinley Park-Park District. With over 420 acres of parklands and facilities, including the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center; Tinley Fitness; White Water Canyon and the Vogt Visual Arts Center; there’s something for everyone looking to get out and get moving.

The Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center is the central hub of the park district. It serves as the main office of the Tinley Park-Park District, and contains a gym with three full-length basketball courts, a walking/jogging track and plenty of meeting and activity rooms that host many of the park district’s recreational programs and events.

Next door to the Rec Center is White Water Canyon Water Park. The water park offers two slides, a lazy river, zero-depth entry pool, diving board, sand play area, spray ground, concessions stand and plenty of places to just lay out and lounge.

Rec Center and Water Park

Right between the Rec Center and Water Park is the future site of Tinley Fitness—a full-service fitness center. The new location of Tinley Fitness will be open to the public in fall 2013. Tinley Fitness offers affordable membership plans, and daily rates for those visiting town but wishing to keep up their workout routine.

In conjunction with the Mayor’s Advisory Panel on Wellness, the park district strives to provide programs and facilities that will increase options to help residents lead a healthy lifestyle. The first outdoor fitness park in the area was open in August 2012. This park offers workout equipment in an outdoor environment adjacent to a walking/jogging path around a scenic lake.
