Minooka and Mokena

Minooka Fire Department

Minooka’s history has been tied to the railroad. Rail surveyor Randall Gardner purchased 500 acres of land along the proposed route of the Rock Island Railroad, effectively founding the village in 1852. The name Minooka is derived from the Pottawatomi word for “good land” — which aptly describes the area. The Village of Minooka was incorporated on March 27, 1869. Minooka has an estimated population of 6,365.

Hometown ambiance couples with modern convenience, making the villages of Minooka perfect for business and family life. Amenities abound with reasonable housing costs, superior schools, developing retail, new business endeavors and with Chicago less than 50 miles away, residents have a thriving and connected community to call their own. Minooka’s close proximity to this metropolis allows residents living here an easy commute to work. The region is rapidly expanding to meet the needs of a growing community.
