Winnebago County Festivals and Events

Winnebago County is host to a large number of festivals and events every year. In fact, it’s hard to get bored with all that is going on. For a complete listing, go to info@gorockford.com or visitnorthernillinois.com.

Some of the larger events include:

Memorial Day - “Young At Heart” – Loves Park Annual four-day festival with entertainment, carnival rides, vendors, a beer garden, great food and fireworks.

June – Rockford Airfest Thrilling military and civilian three-day air show at the Chicago Rockford International Airport.

June – Garden Fair Extravaganza Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden event features more than 70 vendors selling everything for the garden from plants to stepping stones, plus events for kids.

June – Midsommar Fest Swedish Historical Society celebrates its Swedish heritage with Midsommar festival featuring Swedish vendors, music and Swedish dancers, arts and crafts for kids, Mormor’s Attic, as well as food booths offering Swedish and American fare.

4th of July Celebrations Rockford’s gala 4th of July celebration rocks the banks of the Rock River from noon to dark on this national holiday. The outstanding fireworks display, the largest in the state, thrills viewers to the accompaniment of synchronized music on B103 at 9:30pm. Rural communities also hold parades and celebration.

July - Old Settlers Days – Rockton Annual four-day event including amusement carnival rides, crafters, a beer garden, food, auction, teen tent, entertainment, parade on Saturday and fireworks show on Sunday.

July - Wildflower Weekend - Rockton Free three-day event at Nygren Wetland Preserve features family activities - guided tours, hay wagon rides and programs on wildlife and wildflowers. Wildflowers in full bloom and stunning views of midsummer prairie make this an experience to cherish!

August – Festa Italiana Celebration of local Italian heritage featuring three days of authentic music and folk dancing, carnival rides and booths, kids’ activities, autographs by stars from Rockford sports teams and great Italian food.

August – Winnebago County Fair Midway, harness racing, motocross show, livestock competitions, entertainment garden, arts and sewing events and children’s activities.

August – Cherry Valley Days Three-day family festival including musical entertainment on two stages, amusement rides, adult and children’s games and events, bingo, food, fireworks and much more.

Labor Day Weekend - On the Waterfront presented by Associated Bank - Rockford Illinois’ largest music festival spans 30 blocks and features more than 200 hours of music on seven awesome stages PLUS more than 50 food booths, 30 special events including a Kids’ Castle, a World Marketplace and spectacular fireworks show every night!

September – Pow Wow at Macktown Living History Center Traditional pow-wow honors Native Americans with drummers and dancers, native crafts and food at the historical Stephen Mack home.

September - Lion’s Fall Festival – Roscoe Roscoe Lions Club’s annual Fall Festival features Bingo, free entertainment, attendance prizes, Teen Tent, rides, vendors, great food, raffle with grand prize drawing, plus pancake breakfast and parade on Sunday.

October – Head of the Rock Regatta – Rockford More than 60 clubs, universities and unaffiliated groups from all over the Midwest, with more than 1,700 rowers in 550 boats from 15 states, compete on the 2.75-mile course on the Rock River during premier “head” sculling race.

December – Holiday Festival of Lights – Rockford Rockford’s Festival of Lights is one of the annual fixtures of the holiday season with over 50 exhibits by area businesses and organizations on display in Sinnissippi Park.
