Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy many opportunities in and around Batesville. Fishing is permitted in city reservoirs, which are stocked by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Bischoff Lake, a Batesville city reservoir, also offers a public landing ramp for small craft. Nearby Brookville Lake, which is much larger, offers recreational boating and beaches for swimming.

Only members can play the challenging, well-maintained and very well known 18-hole Hillcrest Golf & Country Club course. However, no less than five public courses await golfers within a 25-mile radius.

Batesville maintains many well-manicured city parks, which accommodate any event and offer state-of-the-art playground equipment, horseshoe pits and volleyball, tennis, baseball and softball facilities. The parks are also perfect for relaxing during a musical performance in one of the pavilions throughout the summer.

The Batesville Memorial Swimming Pool offers the chance to spend a hot summer day relaxing in comfort. Family memberships are welcome. This is also the location for team swimming practices and events. The Southeastern Indiana YMCA also affords the citizens a wonderful day care facility, an expanded gymnasium, a recreation area, an indoor pool, fitness facilities, indoor and outdoor walking trails, racquetball courts, volleyball and many more activities for the family on a year-round basis.

With the sponsorship of many local businesses, Batesville’s local television and radio stations cover many of the high school, college and professional teams.

Batesville is a community that prides itself on its family atmosphere. Therefore, children are afforded many options for recreational activity — including various athletic programs and cultural awareness and reading programs at the local library. There are also many organizations for children to join, including very active Boy and Girl Scout troops.
