Shopping, Dining & Lodging

Shopping in the Crossroads area is unparalleled, with Merrillville housing one of the largest retail concentrations in the area. A local mall along with many smaller shopping centers provides all of the shopping opportunities our residents could ask for.

Southlake Mall, in Hobart, is anchored by J.C. Penney, Macy’s, Carson’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sears, along with an AMC Showplace 12 movie theater. Other stores include The Disney Store, Bath & Body Works and AT&T Cartronix. The mall has a fabulous food court that offers a variety of options. For those wanting a more upscale experience, shoppers can dine at Cooper’s Hawk Restaurant & Winery.

Northwest Indiana shopping isn’t complete without a stop at Albanese Confectionery. This innovative candy company has been producing fantastic gummi candies and Gold Label Chocolates since 1983. They use only the finest U.S. and European ingredients and have a passion for creating the best candy products to satisfy your sweet tooth. Check out their website at www.albaneseconfectionery.com.

The Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Times Media and other community Chambers of Commerce recently began the It Pays to Buy Local campaign to encourage residents to do as much of their shopping at local, independent businesses as possible. Studies show that approximately 80 percent of money spent at local businesses is returned to the community, benefiting local schools, employees, city parks and public safety services. Area dining options are just as abundant as the shopping is with restaurants ranging from local favorites to national chains, fine dining to casual eats. Merrillville restaurants include Abuelo’s, Gamba Ristorante, El Salto Mexican, Asparagus, Gino’s Steakhouse, Texas Corral and Outback Steakhouse.

In Crown Point, you’ll find Lucrezia Ristorante, Fahrenheit Two-Twelve, White Hawk Country Club, Carriage Court Pizza, Tavern on Main, Buffalo Wild Wings and nearby Lighthouse Restaurant. Diners are sure to find something to satisfy everyone’s taste.
