Things To Do

Among the many community assets are a 4,500-seat gymnasium, 1,000-seat auditorium, 60,000-volume library, an outdoor amphitheater, and the Marshall County Historical Museum. The Plymouth Arts Commission – Encore Performing Arts brings nationally recognized entertainment to the community. The Marshall County Blueberry Festival, held over Labor Day weekend, is the largest three-day festival in the state, and is ranked by the American Bus Association as one of the top 100 events in North America.

Plymouth is also recognized for its extensive park system. Centennial Park is the centerpiece, complete with the Bill Nixon Baseball Stadium that hosted the 1999 North-South High School All-Star Game.

The area is blessed with six golf courses with 20 minutes of the city limits, including Mystic Hill – an 18-hole course in Culver designed by Pete Dye and his son, P.B. Dye. Marshall County is also home to Swan Lake with two 18-hole championship courses and the nationally known U.S. Golf Academy; Plymouth Country Club, which hosted several LPGA events during the 1970s and 1980s; Plymouth Rock, Tri-Way, and Sprig-O-Mint in Bremen.

For those who favor fishing and hunting, Marshall County offers opportunities in both areas. There are 20 lakes to choose from as well as the Yellow and Tippecanoe Rivers. Fish species include largemouth and small-mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, sunfish, perch, catfish, pike, walleye and carp.

Lake Maxinkuckee, the second largest spring-fed lake in Indiana, also offers plenty of sailing and water-skiing. A favorite past time in the area is hunting, with deer and turkey being the first and second prizes harvested in the area. Waterfowl include ducks and geese, while hunting lands feature quail, pheasants, and other game birds.

The state-managed Menominee Wildlife Conservation Area also offers other recreational sports such as hiking and bird watching. The scenic bicycle ride from Plymouth to Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee and to Ancilla College and Gilbert Lake is a popular spring, summer and fall attraction.
