Culture

Wells County residents are proud of their homegrown cultural art programs.

On warm summer nights, people bring their lawn chairs and gather on the banks of the Wabash in Bluffton for the Kehoe Park Summer Concert Series. The Creative Arts Council of Wells County operates one of the most respected small arts organizations in the state. Programs include music and theatrical performances, community showcases, gallery exhibits, educational programs for all ages, classical ballet, cuisine, literary, travel events and arts advocacy.

The Wells County Historical Museum is a restored Victorian home built in 1882. It houses more than 10,000 carefully catalogued items oriented toward Wells County history, culture, industry and genealogy.

The Wells County Historical Society, founded in 1935, sponsors a variety of cultural events and historic entertainment, including an annual quilt show, Old American Craft Day and a Victorian Christmas Open House. The society members also operate the Wells County Museum, a beautiful three-story brick mansion that was listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1979. Exhibits include Everett Scott baseball memorabilia and a Civil War diary of William Bluffton Miller (the first child born in Bluffton).
