First platted in 1869, the people of Anita are committed to the community and quality of life. Anita lives up to its motto, “A whale of a town!” boasting an excellent public library and community center, lovely city parks, recreational trails, an 18-hole golf course and a beautiful Lake Anita. Family focused events and the Farmers Market which runs spring to fall are also what you will find in this charming Iowa town.

Lake Anita State Park
Lake Anita State Park covers more than 1,100 acres and holds a body of water of 171 acres. There are 161 camp sites in the campground, plus a primitive camping area. The past few years it has been ranked in the top 10 for camping numbers in the state of Iowa.

Lake Anita is one of the premier run-off lakes in the state. Water running into the lake goes through a series of silt retention ponds. As a result, siltation of the lake is minimal. It has never been in need of dredging as has been the case for other Iowa lakes.

Good clean water makes for good swimming and excellent fishing, boating and hiking are also popular pastimes at this recreational area. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources the fish count is excellent.

Anita Sporting Clays Course & Hansen Outfitters
Anita Sporting Clays Course is a state-of-the-art facility for shooters of all levels. A first-class shooting range with 10 stations that can accommodate six shooters each; they focus on providing sporting opportunities for shooters of all abilities. Operating on approximately 28 acres and using top-of-the-line machines; Anita Sporting Clays Course offers a wide variety of shooting situations that will be presented in the average hunting experience. The sporting clays facilities are available for family events, benefits and corporate outings. The Anita Sporting Clay League runs May-August with a tournament in September.

NSCA (National Sporting Clay Association) registered shoots are held monthly at Anita Sporting Clays Course. The events are well attended with shooters coming in from several surrounding states. Anita Sporting Clays Course is open May to December.

Hansen Outfitters is a fully licensed hunting preserve and guide service for big game, waterfowl, and upland bird hunting. In addition to being a licensed hunting preserve, they are also a licensed game bird breeding farm. Founded in 2008 by Paul and Lori Hansen, Hansen Outfitters has grown to include 800 acres of preserve land. The National Bird Dog Circuit and Bird Hunters United hold frequent field trials there and anyone interested in watching or participating is always welcome!
