Iowa WesternCommunity College Education changes lives ... let it change yours!

The Cass County Center of Iowa Western Community College is proud to offer a wide variety of educational opportunities, including extensive selection of coursework for college credit, classes for CEU’s and professional licensure, plus programs that expand knowledge for lifelong learning.

Exclusive to Iowa Western in Atlantic is an advanced, technologically centered academic program known as Design Technology. Powered by a $65.2 million in-kind software grant from the Siemens GO PLM Group, students are being trained to be the next generation of product designers, process developers, research specialists, mechanical technologists, and any other job where technology and growing industries meet.

One of Design Technology’s primary goals is to prepare students for careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Design Technology is the first-of-its-kind, flagship program with Siemens and was developed by Iowa Western, together with an outstanding industry advisory board, to meet the demands of Iowa industry. This emphasis on creating a program that directly ties into the skills needed by local companies has already delivered positive results, both inside and outside the classroom.

Design Technology students are challenged with project-based learning, which translates into success outside the classroom. John Worth, Vice President of Operations at Owner Revolution Inc. in Adair, has worked with Design Technology interns and hired Design Technology graduates. “The Design Technology program as an amazing opportunity for IWCC, for students, for Atlantic and the surrounding communities, and for the businesses in the area,” he noted. “Businesses now have the opportunity to take advantage of the state-of-the-art technology and equipment, to utilize the internship program to support production needs and technical projects, and to have talented resources available for hire locally.”

The success of Design Technology has allowed for a one-hundred percent placement rate for graduating students, with lucrative starting salaries. Iowa Western Design Technology program welcomes prospective students and family members to visit the Design Technology program at the Cass County Center.
