Marne

Marne is located in Brighton Township in the far Northwest corner of Cass County, and conveniently located just 3 miles south of Interstate 80. On May 17, 1875, investors from a German settlement in Davenport filed papers to plan a new town on land purchased from Thomas Meredith. It was named Marne, in honor of the city of Marne, Germany. Located along a railroad, the town thrived and grew for many years. As with many small towns, when the railroad left, the population declined. But Marne remains a vital, active town, rich in history, with several organizations that provide plenty of activities throughout the year.

Drawing a crowd from around the world, Baxter Cycle serves an international clientele of vintage British motorcycle enthusiasts. For more than 30 years, Baxter has hosted an annual motorcycle rally the 3rd week in August, showcasing a variety of new and vintage bikes and riders in Marne for a range of activities that culminates in a bike show and hot dog feed at the City Park.

The Marne Community Club sponsors and annual chili cook-off every January, as well as a holiday light contest during the Christmas season. Every July 4th, Marne City Park is the place to be for and old-fashioned, spit-roasted hog roast and table-busting potluck supper, followed by the most up close and personal fireworks display around!
