Finding Your Way
Crawford County, in western Iowa, has convenient access to several large cities. Sioux City, Iowa lies 75 miles to the northwest, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska are 75 miles to the southwest, and Des Moines is 100 miles to the southeast.
Four major highways, U.S. 30, 59, 141, and 39, two major railroads, the Union Pacific and Canadian National Railway, and the finest airport in western Iowa serve the area’s transportation needs. The interstate highway system, with Interstate 80 just 37 miles south and Interstate 29 only 40 miles to the west, is close and easy to reach. The network of county-paved roads is also convenient for residents and tourists, offering the opportunity to see beautiful rolling farms and country scenery.
Denison Municipal Airport is located two miles southwest of the city. It has a 5,000-foot concrete runway and two turf runways. The airport is equipped with NDB and GPS approaches, AWOS weather information, and an RCO. The terminal building has a spacious pilot’s lounge, conference room, and lobby. Commercial air service is also available in Omaha, Nebraska, Sioux City, Iowa and Des Moines, Iowa. Commercial rail service (Amtrak) is available in Omaha, Nebraska.
