Education is a top priority in the Dubuque area, which is served by a number of schools, ranging from early childhood education through post-secondary colleges and universities.

The Dubuque Community School District serves the majority of the community’s public school needs. The K-12 district consists of 13 elementary schools (including one charter school), three middle schools, two comprehensive high schools and an alternative learning center. In addition to a rigorous traditional curriculum, Dubuque Community Schools offers gifted and talented courses, at-risk programs, special education, English as a Second Language (ESL), after-school activities, post-secondary programs at the high school level and much more.

In addition to Dubuque Community Schools, the community and its surrounding area is also served by East Dubuque Schools, Galena Schools and Western Dubuque Schools.

For those looking for private and/or parochial learning opportunities, the Dubuque area is equipped with various institutions, including Dubuque Lutheran School and Holy Family Catholic Schools – a system of preschool through 12th grade schools in the Tri-state area. The region is also home to several seminaries, notably Divine Word College in Epworth and Wartburg Theological Seminary in town.

Further post-secondary outlets are positioned in and closely surrounding Dubuque. At home, students attend Clarke University, Emmaus Bible College, Loras College, University of Dubuque, Northeastern Iowa Community College Dubuque Center and various technical schools, including Capri College. Other nearby colleges and universities include St. Ambrose University in Davenport and the University of Wisconsin Platteville – among many more.
