With a location along the beautiful Mississippi River, the Dubuque area is great for both active and passive recreational opportunities.

The City of Dubuque operates 47 park sites totaling 878 acres. Visitors discover a wide range of excellent amenities through the City parks, including tennis courts, fishing piers, two skate parks, a disc golf course, playgrounds, ball fields, picnic areas and 18 miles of trails. In addition, Dubuque County oversees a number of parks and facilities in and around the city of Dubuque. Under the County’s management are seven parks, the 26-mile Heritage Trail, several nature preserves and wildlife areas and the Swiss Valley Nature Center.

Dubuque and its neighboring towns host a collection of further recreation sites, including the modern Dubuque Sports Complex, home to the Dubuque Boys Independent Baseball League; the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, ideal for passive leisure; the Mines of Spain State Recreation Area and E.B. Lyons Interpretive and Nature Center, a National Historic Landmark just south of Dubuque; two ski resorts; marinas; campgrounds and much more.
