Culture and Entertainment

Visitors and residents have access to many local celebrations, concerts, festivals, parades, special events, tours and more in our quaint Midwestern city. An extensive renovation is offering new life to the two city-maintained historic train depots in Riverview Park. In addition to soon serving as the home for Amtrak, the North Lee County Historic Museum is housed in these buildings. The museum complex shares the history of the railroad, firefighting lore, pioneering days and much more. The North Lee County Historical Society is also guardian of Brush College (a 100+ year-old one-room schoolhouse) and the original 1867 Lee County Jail.

Art Association

Theatrical performances by the Old Fort Players bring both laughter and tears to their audiences. A whole cast of neighbors are committed to bringing quality theatrical pieces to life right here for your entertainment.

The Fort Madison Area Art Association makes art enjoyable and accessible with monthly exhibits from local amateur artists to nationally acclaimed artists alike. A consignment gallery also offers works for sale, and educational programs for youth and adults are provided throughout the year. The FMAAA is also home to The Place of Fire, a public pottery gallery and workshop.
