Building a Strong Economy
Located 20 miles from the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area, with interstate and railroad transportation immediately accessible, Mills County is becoming very attractive to commercial and industrial expansions and new businesses. The Economic Development Foundation together with Mills County offers Tax Increment Financing and other incentives to help promote both new and existing businesses.
Agriculture is one of the main industries in Mills County. The town of Emerson is a major grain-shipping center, with storage capacity of more than a million bushels. Henderson serves a prosperous farm area with a Farm Service store, construction firm and other enterprises. Malvern has two major farm service enterprises, an equipment dealer, repair shops and bulk plants.
But there is more to Mills County commerce than agriculture. Tourism accounts for part of the area revenue as do other recreation, service and entertainment-oriented industries.
