In addition to being a railroad town, Malvern was also home to a small poultry industry in the early part of the 19th century that included two hatcheries, an eviscerating plant, egg drying facility and a feed mill. Though the poultry industry moved to other states, the town is currently experiencing expansion of housing. The Business District was renovated in 1999 and a capital campaign has been completed to build an addition to the public library. It has the second largest population in Mills County (approximately 1275) and is governed by a mayor and council.
