Parks and Wildlife Areas

Chautauqua Park is located adjacent to the swimming pool on West Russell Street in Jefferson. It provides users with picnic tables, restrooms, basketball courts, horseshoe courts, playground equipment and a new shelter house.

Daubendiek Park is located on West Russell Street, just west of the Jefferson waste water treatment plant. The park offers a .66-mile hiking/biking trail placed in a natural setting of prairie grasses and wild flowers. There are restrooms, a shelter house and a jetty for fishing.

Dunbar Slough is 1,500 acres of marsh and prairie wildlife habitat recognized by the Department of Natural Resources as one of the top observable wildlife areas. The slough also features unique artesian wells and an eco-lab facility available for gatherings. Located five miles south of Ralston.

Goose Lake is a popular migratory waterfowl viewing area, located five miles north of Jefferson.

Henderson Park is located one mile south of Jefferson. The park is directly next to the Raccoon River and provides users with grills, a picnic area, restrooms and a tent camping area. This 39-acre park can be found by traveling south of Jefferson on Highway 4. Signs directing travelers to the park will be seen on the east side of the road.

Hyde Park is located six miles north of Scranton. The 57-acre park has a pond, grills, play equipment, restrooms, a shelter and a tent camping area with electrical sites.

Head Park is located in the northwest part of Jefferson at the intersection of Head and Walnut Streets. Head Park provides users with restrooms, sand volleyball court, basketball court, playground equipment, backstop, picnic tables, grills and a small shelter house with electricity

Kelso Park is located on the south end of Walnut Street in Jefferson. Kelso Park provides park users with restrooms, water, grills, backstop, electricity, picnic tables, large open play area and a sand tot lot. The shelter house accommodates 100 people.
