Business and Industry

Muscatine is remembered for having once been the “Pearl Button Capitol of the World” and as a major force in the early lumber industry, but certainly industrial growth did not stop there.

Today, the strong base of large and diverse businesses provides economic stability to the area. Several major world headquarters are located in Muscatine. HNI Corporation — parent company of Allsteel, The HON Company, Gunlocke and Hearth and Home Technologies — is one of the largest office manufacturers in the world and the nation’s leading manufacturer of gas- and wood-burning fireplaces. Kent Corporation is a diversified family-owned corporation with operating subsidiaries involved in corn wet milling, the production of animal feeds and the manufacture of food products. The Stanley Group provides worldwide engineering and consulting services. Bridgestone Bandag, Carver Pump, H.J. Heinz L.P., Monsanto, Musco Lighting, The Raymond-Muscatine Corporation, SSAB Iowa Inc. and West Liberty Foods all have production facilities within Muscatine County.
