Pleasant Hill is located in eastern Polk County adjacent to the City of Des Moines. The city is well known for its close proximity to regional and statewide recreational and entertainment venues like Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, the State Fairgrounds, Adventureland Amusement Park, Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex and three golf courses: Copper Creek, Terrace Hills, and Toad Valley. In addition, the city has numerous walking and bike trails that are connected to the Central Iowa trail system and six parks available for family recreation.
Other attractions include the annual Labor Day Festival, the Hill of Lights (a Christmastime celebration) and an annual golf tournament — sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
Pleasant Hill creates an upscale small-town living atmosphere and at the same time is only 10 minutes from downtown Des Moines and major shopping and commercial centers, recreational and entertainment opportunities and transportation services. Pleasant Hill is located on undulating terrain that makes it one of the most attractive locations for residential living in Central Iowa.
