Spencer is strategically located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 71 and U.S. Highway 18, which serve as primary arteries through the community. The Iowa Great Lakes is a mere 15 miles north of Spencer and easily accessible via Highway 71. Interstate 90 runs through the southern portion of Minnesota, and is 30 miles north of Spencer. Northwest Iowa Regional Airport
The Northwest Iowa Regional Airport serves Spencer and Northwest Iowa. The airport is located atop a northwest-southeast ridge in the northwest corner of Spencer. The airport has two runways — runway 12-30 (which is 100-feet by 6,000-feet) and runway 18-36 (75-feet by 5,100-feet). Both runways are concrete grooved, and are lit by a remote three intensity lighting system.
Private aircraft (from ultra-lights to high performance jets) use the airport.
