School District 413 serves Chanute and the surrounding
area (a total area of 125-squares miles) by providing a quality education
for students from pre-school through grade 12.
district is comprised of an Early
(which serves kindergarten and pre-school age students), three elementary
schools (serving grades one through five), one middle school (for grades
six through eight) and a high school (grades nine through 12). An alternative
high school program is available for non-traditional students that need
alternatives for earning high school credits. USD #413 is a member of
the ANW Special Education Cooperative, which provides services to students
with special needs. The district enrollment is around 1850 students.
#413 provides an all-day kindergarten program in an effort to get students
started on a road to success in school. A concerted effort to maintain
small class sizes in the primary classrooms has been accomplished in nearly

program. The school district has been successful in obtaining numerous
grants, which are directed toward providing supplemental services to the
students of USD #413. Extensive after-school opportunities have been provided
using grant funds. The district understands the necessity of providing
tools for learning, and is committed to providing current technology for
use by students and staff. While USD #413 students generally score at
or above the state and national averages in nearly all measures of academic
success, the staff continually strives to improve the quality of education
provided to students.
County Community College
is a full-service community college located in the heart of Southeast
Kansas that serves over 1800 students each semester. With
a residential campus in Chanute; a campus in Ottawa, Kansas; classes offered
at other outreach sites; and online and interactive television courses;
NCCC offers unparalleled access to higher learning.
students plan to transfer to a four-year college or enter the workforce,
NCCC provides “the education you need and the attention you deserve.”
The college offers associate degrees and certificate programs, convenient
course scheduling and transfer agreements with numerous colleges and universities.
Among the numerous program offerings, NCCC features a highly ranked nursing
program. In addition, NCCC has a robust intercollegiate athletic program
at the Chanute campus.
