Franklin County boasts four school districts serving our future workers/leaders. USD #290, Ottawa has invested over $26 million in new facilities since 2004. USD #289, Wellsville has built a new elementary school and improved its facilities in the last few years. USD #287, Williamsburg and Pomona consolidated high schools to enhance learning opportunities, and USD #288, Central Heights continues to improve both athletic and educational facilities.

Several private, faith-based elementary and secondary education schools are available within the Ottawa area. The Ottawa campus of Neosho County Community College has grown to over 1,000 students with plans to construct a new 25,000-square-foot modern facility in the next few years. They specialize in turning out registered nurses with over 50 graduating each year. Ottawa University, our oldest educational body, has plans for growth in the range of 300 percent in the next 10 years. They are a Baptist-affiliated liberal arts school.
