Law Enforcement

As a community grows, so does the likelihood for crime and disturbance. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales Police Department and Sorrento Police Department have stepped up to this new challenge by running efficient, effective operations and by working together to assure us that our parish will continue to be a safe and healthy place to live.

Under Jeff Wiley, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is a dedicated supporter of the Ascension Chamber of Commerce and Ascension business and industry. The Sheriff’s Office believes that an economically strong community provides the funding to support their missions, which are necessary to maintaining a quality community where business can thrive.

The Office of Sheriff for Ascension Parish was created by Louisiana Legislature in 1807. Today, by constitutional and statutory decree, the sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the parish, the chief tax collector of the parish, the keeper of the jail and an officer of the courts.
