Mayor of Jennings

The Jennings City Council and I welcome you to the City of Jennings and Jefferson Davis Parish.

We are particularly proud of our diverse culture, rich heritage and Southern hospitality. Jennings was founded by railroad contractor Jennings McComb. Many settlers came from the Midwest, along with Native American Indians and Cajun and Creole French. We know you will enjoy our wonderful city as well as the nice folks who always greet strangers as friends.

With our city located in the heart of southwest Louisiana on Interstate 10, midway between Houston and New Orleans and Lake Charles and Lafayette, we are the perfect place for a break. Relax and pet our alligators at the Interstate Park, step back into the past at the Tupper Museum, enjoy the Zigler Fine Arts Museum, get a glimpse of our many churches and historical homes, shop our friendly stores, or you may want to taste the wonderful cuisine at our local restaurants.

Jennings is known as the “Cradle of Louisiana Oil” since the state’s first oil well was drilled nearby. Jennings is also known as the “Boudin Capital of the World.” Boudin is a mixture of pork, rice and seasonings that are stuffed into a casing. It is enjoyed by our locals as well as our visitors.

We hope that you will find this book so informative and enjoyable that you will want to visit us in the near future.

Again, welcome to our beautiful city, which boasts of great food, friendly people and southern hospitality.
