Mayor of Welsh

Carolyn Louviere

Welcome to the City of Welsh! You will find that our history is very deeply rooted in rice farming, cattle and sugar cane. These are major industries for Jefferson Davis Parish.

Today Welsh promotes itself as the gateway to the Lacassine Wildlife Refuge, a hunter’s and fisherman’s paradise located south of town.

Welsh is a friendly community of 3,500 on the prairies of southwest Louisiana. It’s a fun place to visit and a great place to live.

Good food and beautiful parks featuring baseball fields, tennis courts, walking trails, (RV) camper hookups and covered pavilions welcome you.

During the year we celebrate the Alumni Baseball Tournament in July, which draws many to our town. In the fall we have the Coming Home Festival, and in December we have the lighting of the town Christmas tree and parade.

Our motto: “Not the Biggest but the Best”

Mayor, City of Welsh
Carolyn Louviere
