Zachary’s calendar is filled with activities and festivals year round, keeping residents entertained and visitors coming back for more. With a nearly perfect climate in which no month has an average temperature greater than 82 degrees or less than 49, the community offers ideal year-round weather for a number of sporting, recreational and community celebration events.
One of the biggest annual water ski tournaments in the world calls Zachary home. The event at Bennett’s Water Ski School, which has been in the community for 21 years, draws competitors and fans from around the world. It has even been nationally televised.
Port Hudson, a nearby park that was the site of one of the most important battles of the Civil War, is also popular. One of the last Confederate strongholds on the Mississippi River, Port Hudson is a Louisiana State Commemorative Area.
A celebration of the community and the nation’s past, the Zachary Historic Village offers a glimpse into the southern American lifestyle during the late 1800s and early 1900s. A variety of restored houses (including the original Zachary Depot, Zachary Town Hall and Fire House) contain exhibits and programs with unique themes, making the Historic Village an entertaining and educational experience for kids and adults alike.
The Christmas parade, Christmas Pageant, New Year’s Eve Gala, the spring Jazz and Art show, Joie de Vivre Mardi Gras Ball, Ladies Night Out, Brec’s Beaver Creek and Copper Mill’s unique golfing community and the private golf, swimming and tennis experiences at Fennwood Hills Country Club are also vital parts of the community. It’s clear that fun and excitement is never far away when you’re in Zachary.
