Zachary Chamber of Commerce

Recreation

Zachary’s population has boomed in the last two decades, and city planners have diligently made sure the community’s recreational facilities have been able to keep up with growing demand.

Full arrays of sporting and leisure activities are available for both children and adults. Recent additions to Zachary Youth Park have included six baseball diamonds, three softball fields, a half-mile walking track and two soccer fields. An active volunteer community organizes leagues and competitions, and helps educate participants in rules and sportsmanship.

Recreational baseball, softball and football are always favorites among local kids. With programs running in both the summer and the fall, over 700 children participate in the area’s baseball league annually. Softball is a hit as well, with more than 250 kids playing each summer. The Junior Bronco football program, named for the Zachary High School mascot, generates a sense of community pride and enthusiasm that kids carry with them into their teens and beyond.

As for adults, golf nuts are served by 18 holes of links-style golf at Copper Mill Golf Club – with natural grass, pot bunkers and distinctive water features. Holes 9 and 18 play around two waterfall-bordered lakes. Hole 2 crosses Cypress Bayou and plays to a large, bulk-headed green with a cliff-like challenge. A private nine-hole golf course is acclaimed for its scenic, wide-open façade and has become a favorite among golfers who enjoy walking the course. The club also offers swimming and tennis facilities for members, and holds annual tournaments in both sports.

Alternative sports are readily available in the community as well. Bennett’s Water Ski School serves 600 students each year, and hosts an annual national-level ski competition. A variety of gyms and other specialized and general recreational centers round out the offerings. With the range of activities, programs and facilities available to residents, the Zachary community is spoiled when it comes to sports and fun.
