contentsPenobscot Bay ME Chamberads

History

Penobscot Bay provides both residents and visitors with many entertaining pastimes and recreational endeavors – choose to spend the day fishing on the water with one of the area’s Maine Guides or visit the Rockland Breakwater to cast a line.

Take a cruise upon an impressive windjammer or go on a sea kayaking or canoeing excursion. Day cruises are also available, offering a glimpse of the islands, puffins, seals and historic lighthouses. Ferries are easily accessible, providing transport to the diverse islands of Vinalhaven, North Haven or Monhegan. Smaller islands, such as Matinicus, can be reached by private boat or air travel.

Historic lighthouses can be sighted throughout the vast area, with some only visible by water or air. The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is situated at the end of the mile-long granite breakwater – an ideal spot for a walk on a warm, summer day.
