Outdoor enthusiasts will relish in opportunities for both active and passive recreation at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, located just 12 miles south of Cambridge. The refuge encompasses roughly 27,000 acres comprised of woodland, tidal marshland, freshwater ponds and cropland. A diverse population of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians make the Blackwater NWR their home throughout the year, including the threatened/endangered American Bald Eagle and the Delmarva Fox Squirrel.


The Blackwater NWR is equipped with two interpretive trails—the three-mile Key Wallace Trail and the 1.5-mile Tubman Road Trail—along with three available trails for paddling via the Blackwater and Little Blackwater River systems. Additionally, cyclists can take advantage of more than 50 miles of country roads, which wind in and around the refuge. Three cycling loops are available and open for riders of all skill levels.

The newly renovated, full-service Blackwater Visitor Center offers guests a number of excellent exhibits, the Butterfly and Beneficial Insect Garden and an observation area allowing guests the chance to view an active Bald Eagle nest—just to name a few features!

Clearview at Horn’s Point
Stretching over 138 acres along the Choptank River, Clearview offers the best in waterfront play. This challenging 18-hole course is just over 6,450 yards from the back tees for a par 72/73. The well-manicured course features tree-lined fairways, water hazards and sand traps, along with a delicious full-service restaurant and bar and generous space for a variety of events.

Linkwood Family Golf Course
For an easier, more relaxing day on the greens, head over to Linkwood Family Golf Course, situated just seven miles from Cambridge. This leisurely 18-hole course provides a mixture of par 4 and par 3 holes, all under 100 yards, as well as a driving range.

River Marsh Golf Club
Recognized as one of the best courses in the state, the River Marsh Golf Club at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina affords golfers a beautiful backdrop, which complements the gorgeous, and certainly challenging 18-hole course.


With a location along the East Coast, Dorchester County offers 1,700 miles of shoreline ideal for a number of activities for all ages and skill levels. With plenty of available water sources, the county is teeming with opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, swimming and more. The area is spotted with marinas for easy access to the water, along with piers ideal for fishing.
