Beautiful botanic gardens, an outdoor sculpture park and so much more can be found at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Nature trails, a special children’s garden, indoor galleries, concerts, a café, and the “largest tropical observatory in the state of Michigan” await.

The first newly constructed LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) art museum in the world is the Grand Rapids Art Museum, located at 101 Monroe Center. The museum displays collections of sculptures and paintings from the 1400s to present-day, and ongoing exhibitions and programs enrich and educate people about the visual arts. With a reverence for the environment as well as art, the museum recycles gift bags, sells earth-friendly items and participates in other “green” activities.

Van Andel Museum Center boasts 80,000 square feet of permanent exhibit space and a 9,500 square-foot changing display gallery. A Michigan heritage museum, education and entertainment are found through exhibits such as “Streets of Old Grand Rapids,” “The Furniture City,” and “Anishinabeck: the People of this Place.”

Performing at the DeVos Performance Hall, Broadway Grand Rapids presents several professional, national touring Broadway productions every year. Rounding out the 2008-09 season are Mamma Mia!, Avenue Q, Sweeney Todd, RAIN: The Beatles Experience and the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

GRCV stands as the oldest and largest community theatre in both the Grand Rapids area and the country.

The Grand Rapids Symphony’s repertoire is wide ranging, with its regular season of eight concert series and several educational and community programs lasting from September through May. The GRS, one of the country’s top regional orchestras, also performs outdoor picnic concerts at the Cannonsburg Ski Area in July and August.
