Within a 15-mile radius of the Twin Cities are two ski resorts and many challenging golf courses.
Plainwell and Otsego both offer several pubic parks with tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment and plenty of picnic tables for your enjoyment.
Plainwell has six parks: Cook Park, at 300 Sterling Street, is great for all seasons, and features a 100-yard-long sledding hill. The hill, lighted for nighttime play, stands approximately 20 to 25-feet high. Also available at the park, are playground equipment, three tennis courts, a basketball court, a softball field and a pavilion for picnics. Sherwood Park is located at 121 N. Sherwood, and features playground equipment, sand volleyball area, picnic tables, benches and a drinking fountain. Hicks Park is a historical site and sits on the edge of the Millrace. Located in the center of town on W. Bridge Street and Allegan Street, the park offers two gazebos, picnic tables and playground equipment. Fannie Pell Park overlooks the point where the Millrace and the Kalamazoo River meet. This park is home to an old electric house and two deepwater wells. There is also a canoe landing available for use. Darrow Park is located at 607 Hicks Street. This park, the smallest in Plainwell, is in a residential area and has a view of the Kalamazoo River. Picnic tables are available for a scenic afternoon lunch. Kenyon Park, used for softball and soccer games, is located at 929 Lincoln Parkway. It is approximately 27 acres and presently only 11 of these acres are being used. Another large recreational area is also located next to Gun Plain Township Hall. AYSO Soccer maintained the six full and six smaller soccer fields in this area.
Otsego offers three parks for residents and visitors to enjoy. Brookside Park, located on East Allegan Street along the bank of the Kalamazoo River, has a gazebo, picnic tables and an overnight recreational vehicle camping area. Playground equipment and restrooms are available for an afternoon picnic or a weekend getaway.
Memorial Park, located on south Farmer Street, has had many renovations in the past 10 years. This park offers tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment and picnic tables. An Army tank placed in the park was added in 2000 by the VFW of Otsego. Softball and rocket football fields are also featured at this park.
Northside Park, on Watson Road, received a list of improvements in 1996 when the Community Built Playground Committee formed to reconstruct the park. Now available at the park are playground equipment, restrooms and a family picnic area.
