graphicThe local government is comprised of a Manager/City Commissioner. In 1919 St. Johns adopted the commission-manager form of government, thus being one of the first cities in the country with this type of administration.

St. Johns Fire Department is a crew of 20 volunteers. Ambulance service is provided in all areas of the county. Twelve sworn officers and 2 civilians operate the City Police Department. Requests for fire, police and medical services are made by calling 911. Clinton County also provides a central dispatch number for general business information.

graphicThe City of St. Johns offers one of the most comprehensive recycling and solid waste programs in the state. Curbside recycling and trash is collected weekly. Other services include seasonal brush, leaf and Christmas tree collections and annual special cleanups for large waste items and hazardous household waste.

The county also offers a bi-annual "Dump Your Junk" day when residents may dispose of appliances, tires and large junk items for free.

Water and sewer are provided to all areas, as are gas and electric. Both GTE and Ameritech provide telephone service.

Clinton County strives to accommodate everyone. Its cooperative attitude continues to attract businesses and families. Its government provides quick and responsive interaction between itself and its people.
