Albert Lea Area Schools provide a high quality public educational program for all learners from birth through senior citizens. Four elementary schools serve students in kindergarten through sixth grade with scientifically-based reading and math programs. Fully licensed specialists ensure all students receive an excellent education including art, music and physical education. Southwest Middle School students in grades seventh through eighth are divided into teams to increase the personalized learning atmosphere.

All students have access to several enrichment classes each year in addition to a standard-based core curriculum. At Albert Lea High School (ALHS), students in grades ninth through 12th have a diverse set of electives as well as required classes with all the state standards set in a seven-period day schedule. ALHS offers over 40 possible college credits to students in our own courses via our College in the Schools program with Riverland Community College at no additional cost to parents.

Our Area Learning Center offers a fresh start for at-risk students in grades eighth through 12th. Our Community Education includes Adult Basic Ed/ESL/GED classes, early childhood, and youth experiential education programs.

A full continuum of special education services (prekindergarten through 12th) help all students reach their highest academic potential. Modern facilities, highly qualified teachers, up-to-date technology equipment, support for a 4:1 student computer ratio, and diverse extra curricular programs from the arts to athletics give students the preparation they need for their futures. The district is an arts partner school with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, providing kindergarten through 12th students, and teachers with an unusually rich variety of local and statewide arts opportunities.

Parent involvement is available through parent organizations at every level. A “parent portal” allows parents access to their student’s school information from any computer with web access. The district website is http://albertlea.k12.mn.us. The District Offices are located at Brookside Education Center. Call 507-379-4800 for more information.
