Outdoor Recreation

Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region is noted for its natural beauty. Residents and visitors of the Hermantown area have ready access to St. Louis County’s 1,000 lakes, several state parks and numerous trail systems designated for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.

Notable recreation sites in the region include the Hartley Nature Center, the Spirit Mountain Recreation Area, the Snowflake Nordic Ski Center and the Willard Munger State Trail, as well as several local park sites operated by area municipalities.

The region is also just south of the scenic Superior National Forest. Recognized as the eighth most visited national forest in the country, Superior National Forest is a great place to enjoy activities such as fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking, skiing and wildlife and nature viewing and is home to the rugged Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), a one million-plus-acre area offering more than 1,500 miles of canoe routes and 2,000 campsites.

Golfers are provided a wide selection of challenging courses in the Hermantown area, too. Beautiful, well-maintained courses are located nearby, with several located in Duluth and other neighboring communities, including Cloquet, Proctor, Carlton and Superior, WI.
