Bikers could log more than 100 miles in a weekend on the Sakatah Singing Hills, Red Jacket, or Minnesota River Trails. These paved trails feature beautiful scenery, rest stops, picnic areas and parks. Mountain bikers can also enjoy seven miles of trails at Mount Kato.


Greater Mankato is home to 27 different parks with a variety of outdoor activities. The parks offer playground equipment, softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and picnic facilities. Many of the parks feature ice rinks in the winter for figure skating or ice hockey. Sibley Park features a petting zoo with more than 30 varieties of birds and animals. Swimming facilities are also available at several parks.

Minneopa State Park also features hiking, camping and a beautiful waterfall.


Fourteen lakes surround Greater Mankato, perfect for a weekend of outdoor adventure. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing are all popular on the lakes in the area. The area is also perfect for birdwatching, as more than 320 species of birds have been sighted in the Minnesota River Valley.graphic

Outdoor Recreation

Greater Mankato has a place for everyone to play. The area is complete with 3 golf courses, as well as Grand Champions Sports Complex, which features mini-golf, a driving range and batting cages. Chesley Skate Park is Southern Minnesota’s premier indoor/outdoor facility for inline skating, skateboarding, and BMX biking. Nearby, Morgan Creek Vineyards is Minnesota’s only underground winery. Mount Kato is a great attraction for a weekend of winter fun, featuring downhill skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing.
