Sports & Recreation

Rochester offers an active lifestyle for residents of all ages, with a range of recreational activities readily available throughout the area. Enjoy the outdoors through the city’s more than 100 park sites and trails, or take a seat and check out one of the many local spectator sports. There is always something to do in Rochester—a community that has been named in National Geographic’s “Top 50 Adventure Towns” and Outdoor Life magazine’s “Top Towns for Outdoorsman.”

Join the more than 40,000 fans that pile into Mayo Field each year to cheer on the Rochester Honkers, a summer collegiate baseball team. Fans of the American pastime also root for the Class B Rochester Royals, the Class C Blues and the Roadrunners. Additionally, the Rochester Giants semi-pro football team continues to draw a large crowd every Saturday night during their season, as does the Minnesota Ice Hawks hockey team.

The City of Rochester’s Parks & Recreation Department maintains more than 3,500 acres of parkland and 85 miles of trails in the area. The list of recreation amenities discovered here is exhaustive and includes everything from playgrounds, athletic fields, dog parks, ice rinks and golf courses to picnic shelters, swimming pools and tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts. The department also offers a number of recreational programs for children and adults, and oversees several major facilities in Rochester. Among the notable facilities are the Mayo Civic Center, National Volleyball Center, Quarry Hill Nature Center, four golf courses and several sports complexes.

Opportunities for playing a round of golf are abundant in the Rochester area. Nine golf courses are located within Rochester alone, with several others positioned close by. The Rochester Golf & Country Club is a private, member-owned club, featuring an 18-hole championship course designed by A.W. Tillinghast. Other Rochester area golf courses include Eastwood Golf Course, Hadley Creek Golf Course & Learning Center, Links of Byron, Maple Valley Golf & Country Club, Meadow Lakes Golf Club, Northern Hills Golf Course, Oak Summit Golf Course, Piper Hills Golf Club, Riverview Greens, Soldier’s Field Golf Course, Somerby Golf Club, Willow Creek Golf Course and more!
