contentsSouthWest Metro MN Chamberads

Location & Transportation

The SouthWest Metro’s name explains it all, as it sits just a short distance southwest of the busy metropolitan area of Minneapolis-St. Paul, more commonly called the Twin Cities. The Minnesota River Valley communities of Chaska, Chanhassen, Carver and Victoria are all part of Carver County. While it is the smallest of the region’s suburban areas, the county stands as one of the fastest-growing counties in Minnesota.

This position places it among the Twin Cities’ extensive transportation network. A number of major highways traverse the area, providing quick access to surrounding communities and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Air travel is also readily accessible at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), which is served by 10 commercial airline carriers. In 2009, MSP was recognized as the third Best Airport in the World and the Best Airport in North America in its size category.Affordable and convenient public transportation is offered through SouthWest Transit (SWT), a resource that offers bus service around the SouthWest Metro area and to a number of destinations in the Twin Cities. The award-winning SWT service is equipped with a fleet of 70 buses and has established eight park-and-ride lots throughout the area’s communities. Residents can also utilize Carver Area Rural Transit (C.A.R.T.) for transport to medical appointments. Additionally, seniors use the C.A.R.T. service to reach adult day care centers, restaurants, shopping centers and more.
