Environmental stewards appreciate the University of Minnesota’s Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, a more than 1,100-acre site featuring pristine display and specialty gardens, superb landscaping and preserved natural areas. Visitors take in the beauty of nature by walking, hiking or biking the approximately 12.5 miles of trails that wind in and around the Arboretum. There are also ample opportunities for educational programming here, as individuals, families and groups learn about such topics as gardening, nature photography, natural arts and design, and even cooking with locally grown produce and herbs.

Theatre-goers relish in the combination of great food and quality productions at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Three theatres comprise the facility, ranging from an intimate space to a large-scale area accommodating up to 541 people. Guests enjoy musicals, comedies and classic plays year-round at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres—a venue that also offers ample space for banquets, receptions, business meetings and other events.

For a more family-centered night out, residents and visitors frequent the Chaska Valley Family Theatre (CVFT), an excellent community theatre featuring local talent. CVFT performs three to four productions each year at both the Chaska Community Center Theater and the Chaska High School Performing Arts Center.

Fans of America’s pastime take pleasure in the competition of the Chaska Cubs and Carver Black Sox amateur baseball teams, while others looking for some fun attend one of the many community-wide events happening in the SouthWest Metro. Among the favorites are the annual Chaska Area Taste at City Square Park; Chaska River Days; Chanhassen July 4th Celebration; the five-day Carver County Fair in nearby Waconia; Carver Steamboat Days; and the Victoria Volksfest.

The surrounding area is also filled with plenty of attractions and cultural and entertainment outlets. Nearby Shakopee is home to The Landing, a re-created living history museum, and Valleyfair Amusement Park & Soak City, while Apple Valley hosts the widely popular Minnesota Zoo. Plus, the Twin Cities is brimming with things to do. In fact, the Minneapolis metropolitan area is listed as one of the most-visited cities in the U.S. (Forbes), drawing more than 18 million visitors each year.

Those planning to spend more than a day in the SouthWest Metro have plenty of options when it comes to lodging and accommodations. The area offers a selection of full-service hotels and motels, which offer all the comforts of home. Visitors can choose from Chanhassen-based AmericInn Hotel & Suites, Country Inns & Suites and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites—all of which provide a convenient location suitable for both business and leisure travelers. Further choices include the Chanhassen Inn and Chaska’s Oak Ridge Hotel & Conference Center, Super 8 Motel and the Best Western Chaska River Inn & Suites.
