Derived from an Indian name meaning “Fertile Lands,” the Waseca area was first settled in the 1850s. Early pioneers were mostly farmers, but the merchants, lawyers, railroads and educators quickly followed. Waseca has grown from a crossroads village of farming to a scenic, prosperous city of more than 10,000. It is the county seat of Waseca County, which has a population of over 19,000.

Today, Waseca offers a safe living and working environment, with easy access to businesses, shopping and community facilities. Citizens display a strong community spirit and commitment to high quality education and recreational programs. Waseca welcomes you to enjoy its culturally rich, economically diverse and beautiful surroundings.
