Pathway to Economic Prosperity in Marion County

The Columbia-Marion County economy has seen tremendous growth over the last few years. Much of this growth is attributable to the recent expansions of several existing businesses and industries, as well as the opening of new companies. In fact, Marion County is home to some of the fastest growing private companies in Mississippi. Marion County has seen an influx of many young professionals into the community, which speaks volumes about our future.

The Marion County Development Partnership works closely with the City of Columbia, Marion County Board of Supervisors and other leaders to make economic development a priority in the community. The Partnership seeks to improve the economic well being of the county by cultivating existing businesses while recruiting new quality industries to the area. To achieve this goal, the MCDP spearheads numerous programs to support the interest of small businesses and industries. With so many new jobs being created by existing industries, support for local companies is paramount to our community's success. Marion County has also acquired 120 acres of property to develop a new industrial park adjacent to the Columbia-Marion County Airport. The State of Mississippi owns 3,500 acres surrounding the park, which offers much potential.

Some of the area's leading employers are, Pioneer Aerospace Corporation, Orleans Furniture, Inc., Rutter Rex Inc. and T.L. Wallace Construction. Combined, these companies provide more than 1,300 jobs in Marion County.

Our business climate is very strong with pro-business leaders, competitive incentive packages and an aggressive chamber/economic development organization. We hope you will take the time to come visit our community and see all we have to offer.
